Benjamin Wachs is a journalist who’s given up writing about San Francisco politics and now covers Truth and Beauty. His work has appeared in Playboy.com, NPR, the Sci-Fi Channel’s “Seeing Ear Theatre,” and other venues. He is the winner of the Stephen R. Donaldson prize for fiction, and knows damn well you’ve never heard of it.
Leslie Ingham is classically trained.
Caitlin Myer tripped over Richard Brautigan’s ashes, and would like to apologize. She has published several short stories and a play about Simone de Beauvoir. Her first novel, Hoodoo, is looking for a publisher.
Daniel Heath writes plays. His short plays have been performed across the country, his long plays have been performed in San Francisco and Los Angeles, he has won awards and commissions from Playground, and he has a small dog that is afraid of the sound of his printer. He is currently working on a rock musical adaptation of a Restoration comedy of manners set on the Jersey Shore in the 1980's.
Portuguese Artists Colony are writers in residence at Fivepoints Arthouse. Every week we meet to make things out of words and every month we invite the public to see what we made. We got it all shiny for you. Do you have something shiny for us? Send your words to submissions@portugueseartistscolony.com.
Need structure? See our guidelines. The Colonists are Caitlin Myer, Leslie Ingham, Cary Tennis, Benjamin Wachs, Alice Wu, Damion Searls and Daniel Heath.

THIS MONDAY !!
A SPECIAL MOVIE NIGHT FEATURING:
ialat's stunningly beautiful portrait of Van Gogh's last days -widely acclaimed as the best film about the artist ever made- stars Jacques Dutronc, whose powerful performance earned him a César Award for Best Actor. The film is set between May and July 1890 in the French village of Auvers, where Van Gogh went to consult the local physician Dr. Gachet and to convalesce from his year-long stay in an asylum. This was a period of great creative activity, when he painted a new canvas every day, including some of his greatest masterpieces. Vivid scenes in brothels and Bohemian cafés, swirling village dances and pastoral panoramas combine to make an unforgettable film, which confirmed Pialat as one of French cinema's greatest directors.

COMINGS AND GOINGS
Featuring Ryan Jones, Joshua Hagler, Ross Campbell, Erik Parra, Bert Bergen, Amanda Robinson, Heather Bernard, Lindsey Lyons, and Jamie Spinello. Curated by Jessica Wallen.
We all come from somewhere. Many of us move somewhere else, and what we are searching for varies greatly from person to person. Whether we are pursuing a career, an education, or relationship, we are all seeking adventure and opportunity in a new land.
During the month of July at Fivepoints Arthouse, Ryan Jones’ epic, wall-mounted pine structures will at once divide and unify the space by echoing rustic country architecture and the urban landscape.
Exhibiting artists will use installations of painting, drawing, paper sculpture and photography to express the related feelings of excitement, loss, fear, regret, and hope one might feel when embarking on a journey to a new home, or a new life.
WEEKLY EVENTS:
EVERY MONDAY: MOVIE NIGHT!!

Fivepoints Arthouse loves films, that's why for over two years we have been hosting a Monday Movie Night. Along with tons of movies in our library, including hard to find documentaries, foreign films, independent film, and Art films, you can bring your own movie and watch it on our large projection system... If the audience chooses that movie to watch that night! Though a fun and unique selection process, the nights entertainment is a mystery to everyone!
Doors open at 7:00, movie determination soon thereafter, show starts at 8pm.
EVERY WEDNESDAY: SOCIAL STUDIO SPACE

Every Wednesday Fivepoints Arthouse opens its studio doors and hosts an evening of creativity. Join us in making your art in a social environment. Bring your drawing, writing, painting, sewing, collage and even get connected to our free wireless to do some computer work. Discuss, critique, and collaborate on ideas and artwork all in a unique, comfortable, social space.
Some materials are provided. Artists are encouraged to bring their own materials and in-progress work as well as create new works. This event is open to all adult artists who might be excited about sharing their work process with others, as well as those in search of learning new tips and techniques from other professional, established artists. Starts at 6pm.
